-- GOT SOMETHING TO POST TO THIS LIST?

-- PLACEMENT-ANNC #1, '08 (A SPECIAL ENCORE PRESENTATION!)

Hello from the busy Placement Team!

This is the second Placement-Announcement for 2008. You are receiving this because we have received your questionnaire requesting placement, and have your camp in our database. If you meet all the criteria, we, the Placement Team, will work hard to give every camp placement as close to what they ask for as possible. Your questionnaire, layout plan and leave no trace plan will be our guide to your needs. Placed camps will be announced by early August.

These announcements help to answer frequently asked questions and give you and your camp-mates important information for this year's event. Please make sure to pass them along to your group.

___________________________________________

ADDING EMAIL ADDRESSES TO THIS LIST

Communication and information-sharing is key to your camp's planning, so be proactive and add the email addresses of some of your key folks to this list. Send your additional email addresses to placement-announce-owner@burningman.com , and remember to include your camp's name in the email.

Note: these additional subscription-requests should come ONLY from the main contact-person who filed the placement questionnaire.

Last year some of the important early-arrival passes were kicked-back by the main contact's email address. Don't let this happen to you! Provide extra email addresses as insurance!

__________________________________________

UPDATING YOUR MAIN-CONTACT INFORMATION

It's important that we have the most current information for the main contact-person of your camp. While working on this year's city layout, we often have questions or need clarification on something in your questionnaire. This could affect your camp's placement, so being able to reach someone is important.

If your phone number or email address is not current, you can update it by logging into http://forms.burningman.com and clicking on "my preferences".

______________________________________________

ARE YOU AN ARTIST, CAMP AND/OR GEEK WHO BRINGS WIRELESS/'NET TECHNOLOGY TO THE PLAYA?

If you are planning a largescale technological project, have an art project that absolutely requires Internet connectivity, or will be
beaming any sort of bits and bytes into the airwaves above the playa, you are cordially invited and strongly requested to participate at the Burning Man Technology Department will be hosting our second Playa Wireless Summit at 7 pm on June 12, 2007. If you're not in the area, write to us for
info on how to dial in.

PLEASE RSVP and get more info by responding to this post at playatech@burningman.com. It would be great if you could give us a few details on your project.

Burning Man HQ: http://www.burningman.com/officedirections

When we say "technology", we don't mean just a laptop to check your email once during the week when you randomly hop on the Wifi cloud provided by the good folks at Internet at Burning Man. We're talking about the kind of geek who brings a whole car full of technology and towers and beams bits and bytes all over the playa and into the universe.

Well, from one geek to another... we all know that these bits and bytes that we are beaming all over the playa will play a lot nicer with each other -- and get to where they are supposed to be going -- if we all talk about what we are planning to do and work together ahead of time. Heck, we may even be able to help each other out a bit on our projects!

Please let us know the nature of your project, and feel free to get as geeky as you wannabe - we'll get it. You'll be invited to attend the Summit where we'll talk geek talk and compare the size of our towers and other fun things like that.

Once again, if you are bringing "heavy geekery" like repeaters and towers, or you have a project that MUST have an Internet connection, we need to hear from you.

Send us a ping at playatech@burningman.com .

Thanks!

(01110100011010000110000101101110011010110111001100100001)

______________________________________________

WHAT?, WHERE?, WHEN? SUBMISSIONS

Q: Why where the locations for events not included in the 2007 What?, Where?, When? guide?
A: There was a mistake in the guide for the 2007 event and the locations and times of things were difficult to discern. We recognize the issue and will have it resolved for 2008.

Want Black Rock City to know about your wonderful parties, events and happenings? Get it into the What?Where? When booklet today! Just go to our on-line calendar, click on "Playa Events Calendar" and add your blurb on your day:

http://www.burningman.com/calendar/

DO NOT wait until you get your placement information. That won't be until early August. We will add your playa-address later, after we have finished mapping.

______________________________________________

2007 MOOP MAP

MOOP is an acronym for Matter Out Of Place. Just about anything that isn't playa dust on the Black Rock desert is MOOP. As your camp's plans are gearing up for this year, we can't emphasize enough the importance of Leave-No-Trace planning. Were you at the event last year? How did your camp do? Check out this link:

2007 PLAYA RESTORATION CREW MOOP MAP

"A picture is worth one-thousand words". The 2007 MOOP map has an great new feature, the "MOOP TRACKER". You can access the Tracker at the link above on the right side of your web browser screen. When you select the "Hotspots" or "Abandoned Stuff" links, a mouse-over of the glowing hot-spot icons will open a photograph of the MOOP items left behind. You'll see that big items were especially a problem last year: pieces of carpet and lumber.

We can all work at doing a better job. In general terms, many large camps have not adequately staffed their clean-up crews proportional to the size of their camp. Also, while many large camps do a great job cleaning their assigned camping space, they neglect the area occupied (and MOOP-ed up!) by their large "audience" during the event. As all Esplanade and Large Scale Sound Art camps at 2:00 and 10:00 have use of 100 feet of space in front of their camps for art installations and other uses, they are responsible for cleaning this area too.

Coming up with a committed daily Leave-No-Trace Plan NOW is as important as anything else you're planning. It's how we are allowed to return to the Black Rock Desert year after year.

Here are some good resources to help in your camp's planning:

http://www.burningman.com/preparation/event_survival/protecting_the_environment.html

http://www.mezziah.org/burningman/cleanup

http://earthguardians.burningman.com/

This is really required reading for anyone going to Burning Man -- so please take a look. It can save you (and everyone else) a real headache once you're out on the playa.

Yes, the Placement Team always takes a camp's Leave-No-Trace past history into consideration when we do our placement planning!

______________________________________________

BETTER LNT PLANS, PLEASE!

We have noticed a deficiency in some camp's Leave No Trace plans submitted. How do you know if your LNT submission is lacking? Please review the email summary of your questionnaire answers that we sent you. The Leave No Trace summary is at the very end. If you have just one to three lines, and have not identified your camp's Leave No Trace leader, well . . . as the DPW sometimes says (with tongue-in-cheek): "You're doing it wrong!"

Review the sample plans and send your more detailed plans to campplans@burningman.com, please! We wouldn't want to turn you away for placement because your LNT plan was too brief.

The good news is that there was a marked improvement in LNT efforts between 2006 and 2007, so returning camps should keep up the good work and be proud of your contribution to the largest Leave No Trace event on the planet!

. . . did you already submit your camp layout plan? All plans are due by May 31st.

______________________________________________

BLACK ROCK CITY DESIGN: EXPANSION IN 2008

2008 Black Rock City Plan Changes. Did you feel the squeeze in 2007? Well there are some BIG changes to our city this year! Remove 2007’s three inner blocks — Esplanade through “C” — and you have our new Esplanade for 2008 (where Street “C” was last year). The distance from the Man to the Esplanade road is increasing from 2200 to 2700 feet. This will increase the length of the Esplanade 2500 feet over last year. Our 2008 streets after Esplanade run from “A” to “K”. So we’ve removed three shorter concentric inner runs of blocks from the inside, and added two very long concentric runs at the back of the city.

Center Camp Changes. Our Black Rock Ranger Headquarters, and main Medical Station have relocated to the Esplanade frontage of Center Camp, located approximately at 2:00 on the Center Camp circle. Look for larger interactive theme camps in Center Camp too this year, as the depth of Center Camp has doubled — now with an increased footprint into the Esplanade, and intersecting the 5:30 and 6:30 radial roads.

3:00 and 9:00 Plaza Changes. The Ranger Outposts and Medical Stations at the 3:00 and 9:00 plazas are moving this year. They are pulling back to be on “C” street just behind the plazas. We’ve adjusted the plazas to give these essential service locations continued high visibility.
(when the 2008 Map goes on-line, we'll let you know)

______________________________________________

IT BEARS REPEATING: FROM ANNC #1 - CALL FOR CENTER CAMP PLACEMENT & PREPPING YOUR SMALL EARLY ARRIVAL CREWS

Is your camp ready to 'play the palace'? With the 2008 city expansion Center Camp can now hold larger camps. Interactive camps of 30-40 people with activities for all-ages are encouraged to write placement@burningman.com and request Center Camp placement.

What are you waiting for?

. . . and please start compiling a list of your essential setup crew NOW. Our early, limited city services cannot support a large population. We must limit early arrivals to those essential for construction and set up only. Before Monday, everyone on playa must be working, no exceptions. Make your list now and look for early arrival instructions and a call for those counts in future placement-announce newsletters.

______________________________________________

YOUR LIST/YOUR ANNOUNCEMENTS

If you have an announcement that you feel may be appropriate for this list, please email us at placement@burningman.com with a submission request. We are happy to make other camps aware of what you are up to and help to further a community of support.

More to come . . .

Campers registering at the (ahem) last minute missed announcement #1. Here it is:

PLACEMENT-ANNOUNCE #1, '08

-- WELCOME

-- BREAKING NEWS: CENTER CAMP + EARLY ARRIVALS

-- COMMUNICATION, COMMUNICATION, COMMUNICATION

Hello People

This is the first Placement-Announcement for 2008. You are receiving this because we have received your questionnaire requesting placement, and have your camp in our database. If you meet all the criteria, we, the Placement Team, will work hard to give every camp placement as close to what they ask for as possible. Your questionnaire will be our guide to your needs.

_____________________________________________________________

CENTER CAMP 2008 - IS IT RIGHT FOR YOU?

Center Camp has increased in size. We have MUCH MORE room for larger camps there now. Interactive camps with a population of 30-40 campers will now fit in Center Camp. Camps should be:

- Visually interesting
- Theme-related is a plus
- Activities and events for all ages
- Demonstrating Burner ethos
- 24 hr activity, but not loud. (No large scale sound art camps).

Think of the possibilities! So close to Ice and the Cafe If you think you are the right fit, it's not too late to request Center Camp placement. Write placement@burningman.com today.

_____________________________________________________________

HOW MANY EARLY-ARRIVERS?

For the first time this year, all registered and placed camps must claim their space BEFORE our public gate opens August 25th (Monday morning at 12:01 AM). Limited numbers of early arrivals is at our discretion, and there will be a process in place for camps to request early arrival. Please start compiling a list of your essential setup crew NOW. Our early, limited city services cannot support a large population. We must limit early arrivals to those essential for construction and set up only. Before Monday, everyone on playa must be working, no exceptions. Make your list now and look for early arrival instructions and a call for those counts in future placement-announce newsletters.

_____________________________________________________________

THIS LIST

This is a one-way announcement list. It will give you vital information about placement for this year. The email address of the person who filled out your questionnaire, and any additional email addresses provided, have been subscribed to this announcement list. You can expect approximately 10 announcements between now and the event. This list will provide you with valuable information about what is new for this year, tell you how to take advantage of different opportunities, remind you of deadlines for additional information we may need, answer frequently asked questions and finally give you instructions on how to get placed once on the playa. As a member of this list it is your responsibility to communicate this information to the rest of your camp members.

PLACEMENT

Around August 1st the city will be planned and we will give you your approximate address in Black Rock City. Between now and then do not wait for us to contact you: proceed with your planning. We will call or email you if we have any questions. If you continue to receive these important Placement-Announcements and do not hear from us directly, assume all is well. Please do not email us asking for information on your placement. This will only slow down the process. We will not know until August 1st.

CONTACTING US

If you need to make any changes to your questionnaire or have any questions, email us at placement@burningman.com. The Placement Team is waiting to assist. If you do not hear back from us within a week please email again. Check your email provider for filtering that may prevent our messages from getting to your inbox. The volunteers comprising and leading the Placement team have changed over the last few years. Please note that calling or emailing past placers or managers directly will really slow everything down. Use placement@burningman.com, and only placement@burningman.com, please.

CONTACTING YOU

Communication is essential for your camp's successful placement. Every theme-camp or village must have an official "contact-person". This person is responsible for speaking to us on behalf of your theme-camp or village. All communication between us and your camp will go through this contact-person only. It is critical to your successful placement that your contact-person be informed, engaged and available via email or phone between June 15th and August 1st. We assume that the person who filled out your questionnaire is taking on the role of contact-person. If this is not the case we need to hear from both the person who filled out the questionnaire and the true contact-person before we make any changes to our records

GOOD COMMUNICATION

Your contact-person is responsible for seeing that all Placement-Announcements are passed along to your entire theme-camp or village. Also, it is HIGHLY recommended that every camp or village have more than one individual who receives these, to assist with information dissemination. The email address of the person who filled out your questionnaire, and any additional email addresses provided, have been subscribed to this announcement list. A request FROM THE CONTACT-PERSON'S EMAIL ADDRESS is the only way we will add more people to this list, so figure out what addresses to add, and send them today to:

placement-announce-owner@burningman.com

It is clear from past history that the larger the camp, the greater the need for additional people to help remind others of deadlines, dates and critical information.

_________________________________________________________

That's all for now folks. Upcoming Placement-Announcements will cover such subjects as the 2008 City Plan, web-site blurbs, Health Department matters, fire-safety guidelines, and rewards for the best LNT camps, etc.

Stay tuned!

The 2008 Placement Team:
Abdullah, Baulknaub, Douglas, FakeJake, HepKitten, Manflesh, Retro, Sacred Flame, Scar, Shadow, and Sweetthang.

Burning Man dispute heats up with suit

Meredith May, Chronicle Staff Writer

Thursday, January 25, 2007

Burning Man tickets went on sale back in January -- just in time for a lawsuit over corruption amongst board members of Black Rock City LLC. and high ranking officials with the Department of the Interior, the official government body that over sees the BLM internal affairs. After a massive investigation into the user end of drug use associated with the annual end-of-summer gathering of 40,000 fire-loving artists in the Nevada desert, the Department of Interior senior investigator Rich Langly, discovered over a three year investigation that BLM Rangers key to the lieason efforts were buying multi-million dollar homes in the Bay Area.

Neon artist John Law, one of the event's three creators, who in 1990 helped relocate Burning Man from a San Francisco beach to a dry Nevada lakebed, is suing his partners over the right to abandon his shares the Burning Man event in light of the pulling of the permits.

Law's federal suit says he was unaware his one-third share of the Burning Man event over the years since 1996 were supporting the high society lifestyles of BLM Rangers. When he left the organization alligations that he spearheaded the effort to corrupt officals put him at an extremely high risk of legal repercussions. His two business partners, Larry Harvey and Michael Mikel, have recently vanished from any spotlights since the investigation went public on Sunday. The FBI is confident they will have both Harvey and Mikel in custody within days.

The FBI and the BATF are planning on coordinating raids through out Oregon, Washington and Northern California sometime this week.

"We are not sure how many people realize, if your commiting a crime on federal property, your now looking at federal offenses." Said the investigations Chief Spokesman, David Richards. "We kept running tallies and can conclude upward to 3500 arrest warrants will be issued to theme camp participants."

The California and Nevada chapters of the American Civil Liberties Union have began collaborating in an effort to halt the raids. An executive order handed down by State Department officials have so far successfuly blocked all injunctions put forward by the ACLU.

"This is a clear and present danger to the citizens of the United States! People should be marching in the streets." Claimed Larry Forward, lead attorney for the ACLU efforts. "I can't believe the complacency of the American public. This is a sad week for the civil liberties in America."

The national media has been caught by surprise. Associated Press has dispatched 46 reporters to the story, compared to the 63 dispatched in the wake of 9/11. CNN is planning on switching its main coverage today from the national debates scheduled for this evening in North Carolina.

"I got a call this morning from my contacts in Washington D.C. alerting me to the news. An operation of this caliber never gets this far without regular leaks to the media." KBVR affiliate anchor, Sara Watson said. "I can't recall anything like this ever happening so covertly."

The Seeds of ET08

Blessings and Love ET Family,

Hope this letter finds each of you well and enjoying life. Here we go on another year as we surf the zuvuya at the peak of the babylon matrix. We all must wonder what will this year offer politically, socially, but most importantly what’s going on with ET at BM08? That is what this letter is about. The ET core has been coming alive in the Eugene area after winter downtime and we are beginning to think about and ponder ideas for the camp. Your input and ideas are very important so please check out this email and let us know what you think of our thoughts thus far.

To start I would like to offer a bit of insight on what’s up in my inner personal reality. Basically I have been focalizing the camp for the last 4 years. The idea to start was that I was giving back to BM, by in a lot of ways sacrificing my previously known BM experience and running logistics before, after, and during the event. Well, I am feeling it is time that I take it a bit lighter and do things for me a little more at the burn this year. So keep in mind the changes we are proposing to the camp are designed to make the camp easier to manage yet rock super hard at the same time.

Dance Experience
As most of you know, ET is a sound stage every other year. So that means this year we are back with a fat club on the playa. We don’t know much about the stage besides these thoughts –
-It will not be a dome but instead be a new captivating and original structure.
-It will look so amazing inside and out with deco and technology that people will think they have entered an alien light ship.
-Mr. Annand from moontribe/tropical LA and Byron Dreamweaverfrom Van BC CA will be focalizing the music in the experience.
-We are looking into the moontribe sound system or possibly Luke’s Turbo rig for PA.

Camp Layout and local
We are looking to be on esplanade or a bit down the 10 or2. The sound part of the camp will be on the main drag while the village will be between one to one half block away on A street creating peaceful and quiet space for R and R.

What will be provided in the Village
<New Shade Structure (ET SHADED CAMPING)>
Ok, so all of us know what a challenge we had last year keeping the domes cool. Well after trying for 2 years to cool those things down we are deciding to let the concept go.
Instead we will use the breeze to our advantage and create camo net structure using massive camo nets and military camo spreading systems. This will give each person a shaded 10by10 or 9by9 area to setup a tent in the shade. There will be approx 6 of these camo structures each holding 12 tents and having a central chill space. The camo net provides great shade and a breazy atmosphere. Very excited for the new communal structures!
<ET OPEN CAMPING>
We will offer as well about 75 places for ET outside campers. The spots will be about the same size as last year with marked paths.
<Food and Water>
Here is the best news of all. Our friend Gabriel of the Enchanted Feast mobile kitchen will be focalizing the ET kitchen. She is a true kitchen witch and will rock that place. We will be incorporating the cost of food into the ET budget and doing a huge buy just before we leave. It will be approx $4 per meal adding up to approx $50 per person. The kitchen will be vegan for the most part however we will be offering bacon along with vegan fair at lunch on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday (love you Carlos). Food will be organic and all natural for the most part (with some sauces and condiments as an exception). Looking forward to a kitchen that flows and pumps out some yummy DANK!
As for water ET will not be bringing communal water. Logistically it is very difficult as well the water tanks will not fit into one truck. We will bring kitchen and dish water. Other wise you will be required to bring your own drinking and shower water.

Other Structures
We will setup the central chill space again with seating, flooring, and decorations. As well we will setup one dome as a sanctuary from possible high wind storms or morning darkness chilling in the rave cave, ritual space or whatever! Everyone feel free to bring seats, pillows,or whatever to make this place chill.

Things we will not be doing
ET will not have an art car this year. It is just way to challenging to do an art car and sound stage in the same year!!! As well we will be ditching the dressing room all together. It was just way too hard to keep tidy and moop free so its gotta go.

General integrity of the camp
Expect an upgrade in the structures ET brings out. Most sub structures like the kitchen will be build entirely of wood and be very solid. The camping shade structures will be rock solid and look very good. We have been studying the BM organization’s structures and are taking notes.

Fees
These estimates of camp fees could change as we are still just roughing in the budget.
It is estimated that ET SHADED campers will pay $220 and ET OPEN campers will pay $160. This includes costs for all prepared meals.

Once we have firmed in all these details and everyone is happy we will update the website and open registrations. Remember your feedback is important. Please let us know what you think of the way things are shaping up for the village this year. Also if you feel called to help with pre, post or during logistics in any way please chime in and let us know.

Take it Light!

Best,

Mate’ Mataus and the ET Core

I'm running an information center at Alchemy - the Georgia Burn this year, and I'd like to do a shade structure similar to what we had at ET last year. Anyone want to help me out? I know absolutely nothing about building shade structures! What materials were used... info about how to put it together and put it up... any info would be really helpful. Thank you! :-)

My burn was the BEST EVER this year thanks to all you beautiful peeps and our amazing camp setup @ et village.
I danced my ass off like never before on the playa, thanks to the music also being off the hook like mad this year...
Next burn will be even better if you can believe it or not!
(and it is up to all of us to make it that way; dont complain--chip in & make it better!!)

On another note, I am wondering if anyone happened to spot a lime green thermarest and/ or a black sleeping
bag in a stuff sack with a pillow in it. If, perchance, you picked them up thinking they were unclaimed, they are mine,
and I would love to have them back. You may have picked them up from Mate's driveway or thereabouts, after we
got back to Eugene.

Much love to you all!
The party goes on from here--THIS is real life!

If you took pictures in the Earthtribe camp, please post them. You can upload them to this tribe. Go to the photo's area and up loading is easy.

There are some of us that either left our camera's at home or just didn't have one. Also, the most important, you may have captured the essence and perspective that someone else might have missed. You can bring back a flood of memories for people.

Take a few minutes and share your vision through the lens.

Earth Tribe Village Location for 2007

Hello ET Family -

We received our placement at the burn

We are located at 9:45 and Arctic stratteling the 9:45.

I was innicially concerned that we would be to close to sound camps so I called Mike the main placer at the BM organization. He explained to me allot has changed regarding where they are placing what this year. The camps down the 10:00 and 2:00 are mostly art car camps and interactive esplenade type camps leaving about only %30 of the camps as sound camps.

The camps in the 10:00 direction of us are 3 art car camps (not sound camps). Our neighbors on the other side are Astral Vortex Village and Diva Boot Camp Village!

I am very pleased with the location and size of the village plot this year. We are 250 ft by 150ft in size.

Please see Vhilm's image here on the ET site to get a better understanding of our placement.

Much Love -

Take Exit 49/Castle Rock/Toutle.

Turn East, as you get off of I-5, and head East up WA-504/Spirit Lake Memorial Hwy. for approx. 13.9 miles. *give or take a .1 mile*

Look for the "EarthdanceNW" or the “Riverdale Raceway” sign on your right.

I was going to give it to Ms. Ladybug for Grace to read, but I done forgot it. Please read it, take good care of it and pass it along to others in the EarthTribe family. But eventually I want to get it Grace.

LUST in the DUST/DUSTMAN 07

HEY tribesters,

I thought I'd forward this description I got from an acquaintace of the tribe yesterday--ITS BEEN DUSTY-PACK READILY

"Greetings from the playa where I am happy and well and
holded up in my car. I dont want this to deter anyone
from coming, as it's still a blast - but..batten down
the hatches kids, cause the wind is the worst I've
seen in the 12 years I have been coming here.

For those of you around when the big wind hit last
year and took our camp down, that is the way it has
been the bulk of the time - really that windy, mostly
non stop. The airstream is shaking and rocking and my
tent is tied to every rack and bumper and hitch the
truck & airstream have, and I'm still unsure if it's
going to hold up (one pole already snapped). The white
out's are lasting a long time, some well over 5 hours.

I hear it has been like this for weeks, dont know if
it will continue through the event. but the green man
is about nature, so be prepared for the force of
nature to remind us how small we are! The good news is
that it's warm thus far, even in the middle of the
night. MIkey & Sarah - the shade structure we have
planned probably isnt going to fly (or is going to
fly). certainly not with the fabric we are planning, i
just passed some like it and it's not doing well even
with the holes. however, the garage tents around here
seem to be holding up when they have no walls & are
tied down every few feet - so if you feel like
grabbing one from costco, that could work.

or we can just cool off in center camp since it is so
close (1 block). who knows, maybe the wind will
subside. in case it doesnt, i suggest that if you are
debating between a tent or a van/suv, you pick the
car. be sure to put everything in bins that have
locking lids, and in ziplocks inside those. if your
tent has any open netting areas that do not zip closed
with a solid fabric, i suggest glue gunning a fabric
onto them, closing them up permanently, before you
come here (fabric on the outside of the tent, so it's
between the tent & the rainfly).you can always cut it
off later. mine has a few open ones and theres a good
1/8 inch layer of dust inside, on top of the bed, the
floors, everywhere. had to sleep with dust mask last
night. too much to keep up with & too late to close
them off.

the wind/dust is coming from the same direction as
always so be sure to park your cars in a way that
blocks it from anything you put up. and lots of
bungees, ive been through 20 just for my tent. phil -
great decision in sleeping in the rider truck. i think
that is all to tell - just a whole lot of wind. will
update you if it stops. am still having a total blast,
the wind is part of the fun for sure, and look forward
to seeing you'll in a week! cma, please bring glue gun
so i can seal up my tent. (interesting huh? Solveig)

(I felt it needed to start a new thread to add clarity to this topic)

Hello fam -

So here is the scoops.
The list of required bulk food donations will be published on Aug 13th.
At that point we can all get some great ideas and begin to stock up on organic
goodness (of course leaving fresh produce purchase till just b4 bm).
Like it says on the web site we will each need to bring 3 (or 4 or 5 ) bulk food donations.
Please keep in mind that we had we could have had more produce last year
so this year include >>at least<< one box of produce in your buy.

Regarding Kitchen Shifts.
The sign up list will also be posted on the 13th so be prepped to sign up
to rock it in the kitchen. I am excited to see all the wonderful organic food we come up with.

As you all know our kitchen coordinator is yet to be revealed. As of now it
is open however there are 2 strong candidates I will be interviewing shortly.
Keep tuned in.

wow -

its all getting closer!!!

I'm doing my last-minute prep before finally packing everything up to go to the playa. Just one question (at the moment): To what degree with the Earth Tribe kitchen help me make coffee in the morning? Last year, I brought my camping percolator to BM, and it turned out that I didn't need it because the camp I stayed with had a huge catering-size coffee machine thingy.

BIOBUS (space) SHUTTLE 2007 from Reno airport to Burning Man!!

Burn Clean Project is proud to officially present…

BIOBUS (space) SHUTTLE 2007

with your lovely pilot Peter, The German Guy driving you in style on Bio-diesel!!

Meet new lifelong friends on the BIOBUS (space) SHUTTLE to Black Rock City. You will be scooped up at Reno International and whisked to Wild Oats for a quick grocery run and then on to the playa!!! This is the first in a pilot program to lessen our cumulative impact of travel to the greatest city on Mama Earth. If you still haven’t bought your BM ticket and plan to ride the BIOBUS, then please get your tickets shipped to you and carry them by hand, to help the BIOBUS avoid long waits at Will Call.

A $55-$65 donation to Burn Clean Project will reserve a One Way ride to or from the playa, helping you to avoid burning petroleum, the cost of a car rental, and the worst part of all—scrubbing the rental car thoroughly enough so they don’t charge you a playa-sized cleaning fee!

Dates and Times

Note: This schedule is padded so we don’t make people impatient and grumpy…you may arrive at BRC (exact location TBA) earlier in the day, but we want to air on the side of a loose schedule, not tight, and remember…as soon as you step on the BIOBUS (space) SHUTTLE, your Burn has officially begun…just think of all the friends you can make before even stepping foot on the playa!

GO TO
www.burncleanproject.org
FOR CURRENT SEAT AVAILABILITY!

Reno International Spaceport (RNO)-Black Rock City (BRC)
Monday August 27, Tuesday August 28, Wednesday August 29
RNO Loading: 12:30-1:15pm
Wild Oats : 1:45-2:30
Will Call: 4:45ish
Black Rock City: 5:30ish

Tip: The Sun is supposedly going to set at 7:30ish. This gives you 2 hours to find your camp in the light. Having a minimum of luggage and a keen idea of how to hitch a ride to your camp will come in handy here. You will be dropped in a central location, the exact coordinates are still TBA. (We’re waiting on a BM source to tell us what’s gonna fly.)

Black Rock City (BRC)-Reno International Spaceport (RNO)
Sunday September 2, Monday September 3, Tuesday September 4
BRC Loading: 8-8:30am
Exodus: 9-10ish
Reno Int’l: 12:30pm

Tip: Do not be late to load. You will be left in the (playa) dust. No ride is guaranteed for you any of the following days if you miss the bus. Be on time. We love you. Be on time.
Each leg of the journey is sold separately. There are 30 spaces per shuttle.

Here are the steps to booking your seats:
1. CHECK TIMES. Check www.burncleanproject.org on the homepage under the entry: “Spaces Available on the BIOBUS (space) SHUTTLE ” to see what times and dates are remaining.

2. SEND YOUR REQUEST. Send a request for the time slot(s) you would like to book to: connect@burncleanproject.org along with the amount of money you plan to donate.

3. CHECK YOUR EMAIL. Within 8 hours, BCP sends you an email notice of whether your times are available and if they are, then you will receive a PayPal invoice for the amount of a One Way or Roundtrip, depending on your request.

4. PAY IN 24 HRS! Pay the PayPal invoice within 24 hours of receiving it OR YOUR SEAT REQUESTS WILL BE GIVEN AWAY. PayPal accepts Mastercard, Visa, Amex, Discover, PayPal, or a Bank Transfer. You may donate anywhere from $55-$65 for a guaranteed One Way or $110-$130 for a Roundtrip reservation.

5. KNOW YOUR ID. Arrive at Reno Int’l or at the pick-up location (TBA) in Black Rock City knowing two things: Your Name (bless you if this is in question, which it may be on the return trip) and Your ID # that we will send with your confirmation. You may want to tattoo these things on yourself… or just place them inside your wallet.

6. BE NICE. Be amazingly cooperative, punctual, and funloving with the BIOBUS pilot, Peter the German Guy aka Teacher with the Bus. He is very wonderful and he is bringing his beautiful partner and their brand new daughter out to the playa to provide this incredible service. Without Peter and Family, we may not be enjoying this green transport heaven, so just love them up!

7. SPREAD THE WORD!!! To make this mission happen, as many of the seats must be reserved as possible. Tell all your burner friends to book early! If the BIOBUS is a success this year, the project will most likely expand to carry many more people in a sustainable way to the playa for years to come. Large groups are welcome!
Book your trip early as space is limited!

xxooxoxooxx,

Ryan and 1-LUV
Coordinatrix, Burn Clean Project
You can find them at Entheon Village @ BRC!!

Dressing Room

Hey there all!!

I have commandeered the dressing room this year for the Tribe!

We are looking for only good donations this year! We want to look fabulous, like none other. So please let's leave the shwag at home and bring things that are just down right HOT! Or warm for the evening! Bring hats, pants, panties, scarfs, shirts, nylons, suspenders, shoes, boots, belts, extra fabric(to make things with), dresses, and a bunch of funky anything!

I have a few requests for this year. I was looking for a few things of interest for the dressing room:

Full length mirror- we gotta know we look good before we head out the room!

2 make-up mirrors- for getting rid of those blackheads, oh yeah, and putting on make-up

make-up containers- you ladies and bois out there have an extra one that you just don't use anymore

TONS OF MAKE UP- anything will do: spirit gum(and not the divine gum, the sticky stuff), eyeliners, nail polishes(oodles), blush, paints, brushes, lipstick(hooker red is always HOT), mascara, concealer(see blackheads above), eyeshadow, and anything else that will make us prettyful! Except for glitter! NO LOOSE GLITTER!(ahem.. Toonie, hehe)

Sewing stuff- needles, thread, safety pins, hot glue guns and glue- to modify and prettyfy!

I am going to bring a bunch of scissors to make alterations to your clothing, some henna stuff, nail polishes, a set of make up brushes, some ponytails, and bobby pins. I will also have hair cutting shears and clippers, not going to be left in the dressing room, but they will be available. But do remember that you are responsible for the pick up and pack out of your own hair.

Let's make this happen in a truly fabulous way, together!

More transmissions to come!

<<<<<<<<MOOP MESSAGE >>>>>>>

Hello from Spectra your ET MOOP Focalizer. = )

I would like to introduce myself and let you all know some wonderful info about how we will be keeping the ET Village clean and MOOP free in 2007. In 2006 we had some problems with MOOP as we where a big camp with allot of public interaction on the Esplanade. Well this year we are 75 people smaller and don’t have a sound camp at our doorstep so it will be easier to manage MOOP.

We have come up with a detailed LNT (Leave No Trace) plan that is to be fallowed in detail by each participant in the village. If you are caught being MOOPY you will be lashed up to a giant crystal and spanked with a rainbow and you don’t want that believe me =). Ok now go here to the LNT plan and READ IT ALL AND TAKE IT TO HEART.

http://earth-tribe.org/lnt.php

See you out on the playa – and remember keep in clean

<<<<<<<<ALL ABOUT ET WATER >>>>>>>

So we all know the water basics
ET general camping brings their own drinking and shower water.
ET inside domes is provided with drinking water but not water.
ET provides all kitchen water.

So with that said we are all on our honor to do the right thing and bring the water we are suppose to. Please no cheating on the water use.

ET will provide all the solar showers so you can come fill your shower and let it heat on the rack for a while. Then use it when you are ready. We will have 8 solar shower bags for use as well as 2 shower stalls - one private and one open air.

There will be a large grey water evaporative pond. Last year it got kind of stinky because it was to small and was not evaping fast enough. This year we are making it bigger so it will totally evaporate. Remember NO PISS in the evap pond. GROSE! When you are brushing teeth feel free to spit you mouth funk into the water evap pond so it can dry up. Otherwise just kitchen water and shower water in the evap pond.

<<<<<<<<CAPACITY – REG GIFT DUE DATE >>>>>>>

So the village is almost full with 9 spots left in the domes and 23 spots left in general camping. So we are looking good. Funny thing is that I personally know like 40 people who have said they are camping with us but are not signed up yet… We call those people procrastinators. And I also have a hand full of you who have signed up and I have yet to receive your reg gift in the mail. This means that you are not officially registered for the village. Once we hit capacity I will begin to drop names of people who have not made their gifts. Please make your gift soon if you are going to or cancel all together because we want you!

<<<<<<<<ET DRESSING ROOM UPDATE >>>>>>>

Earth Tribe provides a community costume room for its members to dress and apply makeup in so you don’t have to get ready hunched over in your tent or apply makeup without mirrors and lighting. Earth tribe members donate costumes, accessories and makeup to community stock which gives us all more choices to pick from and makes fabulous attire accessible to our international burners.

As you are packing for burning man, please remember to set aside some costumes, accessories and/or makeup/makeup brushes to donate to the community costume room. We will buy what we can after investing in other costume room needs (mirrors etc) tables etc.

Anything that further fabulitizes our tribe will be accepted.

There will be a donation trunk located in the costume room and upon arrival you can just put your donations in it.

Anyone is welcome to decorate the costume room so if you have tapestries/altar items etc please feel free to bring them and decorate to your hearts content!

<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

All for now –
Remember Participation makes this festival what it is.

I am located in Santa Rosa and would like to find a friendly fellow to ride there and back with.
I can make arrangements to meet up anywhere in the Bay Area.

I don't have any specific camping arrangements, yet.
I will have minimal gear this year, so I won't take up too much space (I'm going commando this year).
I would like room for a small BMX bike.
I will have ticket in hand.

I can take a driving shift and add to the Gas fund, I have a valid clean CDL.

holler at me if you would like to add me to your adventuring posse

to clarify ...
we volunteer for a kitchen shift to privide food for the whole camp, correct.

or
the kitchen is available to cook whenever we need to individually?

are the meals already planned out, or do the volunteers decide what they are making for the group based on the food donated?

just curious.

A message to greeters

So I got this message the other day and thought that I would pass it on to you all to see:

All of you represent camps that have volunteered to be greeters during the BM event. First, THANK YOU! Greeters are the first friendly faces that returning and new BRC citizens meet and your camps are a key part of their experience as almost everyone remembers their first greeting to Black Rock City. Remember, the party starts at greeters! That said, we really hope that you and your campmate's have a party like time during your shift.

This year it will be very important that greeters come prepared for the conditions. Based on our visit to the playa over the 4th of July, the playa is very soft and dust IS a problem so be prepared with a good set of goggles and dust masks. If you plan on wearing a skimpy costume (we encourage it!) bring a wrap or something that will break the wind and sand. Come prepared for a white out and strong winds!

General information:

1. Be sure to contact Dragon at Greeters Camp (5:30 @ Corral Reef next to center camp) with directions to your camp at least 24 hours before the shift. We'll brief your greeters before the shift.

2. Greeters should arrive at greeters station at least 15 min before the start of the shift. All shifts begin on the hour.

3. Be sure to bring goggles, dust masks, sun block or wind breaker, and your own cup, snacks and refreshments. There will be water and fluids at the station.

4. You are welcome to bring music, DJ's and fun in general to your shift.

5. Cooperate with the Lead Greeters, Meta and Station manager as they will guide your camp through the shift.

6. Remember to respect personal boundaries of those that are arriving. Your lead greeter will brief everyone on what the limits are.

7. If your camp will not be able to provide all the greeters for the shift (normally 20) be sure to let us know and we can find fill in greeters.

This year the city will have more streets and more people and many of them will be first timers so the issue of "Virgins" needs to ne addressed. The "welcoming" of Virgins can get out of hand and it slows down the lines and backs up traffic. There will be spanking coupons again this year and we are asking you not to spank anyone at the station. There are other activities that they can enjoy without making physical contact and will move the traffic on into the city.

If there are any questions please drop me a note and I'll do my best to answer them. I'll be leaving for the playa on Aug. 24 and will not be able to make any changes after that. So if theres a problem let us know as soon as possible.

Hello ET fam -

In an effort to streamline registrations ET will be offering a discount to groups 5 or more registering in ET general camping.
If your group of 5 plus registers at the same time your per person reg fee will drop from $120 to $90 per person. This group registration
speeds along the process making for less work for me the ET reg person.

Here are the street names for this year . . .

The radial-streets are still numbered in the clock formation we
are all familiar with. Center Camp at 6:00. Plazas at 9:00, 7:30,
4:30, and 3:30. Camping/placement areas end at 10:00 and 2:00.
The Man at the center.

The concentric-streets begin at the Esplanade and thereafter go :

ESPLANADE
ARCTIC

Promoting Earth Trive Village

All projects need to be promoted. So please help us promote Earth Tribe Village.
Feel free to forward this on to anyone who may be interested.
Love and Light,
Mate'

____________
Hello fellow burners,

This is an announcement to let everyone know that Earth Tribe Global Village is now open for registration. We are excited to open our doors to friends and family with
good intentions and harmonious frequencies.

Earth Tribe Village manifests each year in BRC to provide an ultimate home to our people. We strive to be environmentally friendly by using extremely efficient generators, minimizing waste output, and creating re-usable structures.
Earth Tribe's luscious space and complete camping experience is created so each camp member can fully experience the playa and know they have a dialed in place to call home. Earth Tribe 2007 will provide a large central chill space that is 80ft in diameter. It will be a 1/3 to scale model of Burning Man’s center camp and be full carpeted and decorated to provide maximum comfort and beauty. Miles Maeda and the Traveling Love Show will be offering yoga, meditation, and healing on a daily basis here. We will also set up a complete rainbow style kitchen system, water evaporators, showers, a community dressing room, and run a 2 story art car space ship (designed to transport ET members to and fro). Exciting… YA! Basically all you need to totally thrive on the playa! We will also be setting up optional indoor camping domes that are naturally temperature controlled. Come experience streamlined village life.
Earth Tribe registration fees are $120 for standard camping and $240 to camp in the domes. When you analyze the $ you would be spending to be self sufficient you will come to see you can save a lot of lute by joining the village. Check out our “ET Provides” section of the site: http://earth-tribe.org/provides.php
In 2005 we built a public ambient dome. In 2006 we went bigger and built an esplanade large scale dance experience called "Flower of Life". In 2007 we will move a couple blocks back off esplanade and focus mainly on community building in the camp.
If you are looking for a loving, nurturing, and well built camp you found us! Come enjoy the amenities and drama free existence of the ET space ship -; )

We have 20 slots to fill for this day. So let me know if you are interested in participating in this manner. This will be a fun experience being able to welcome in the new arrivals. We will get dressed up and head on down to the greeters station and have a great time. Let me know who is interested in having fun!

Namaste’ and all the best to you ET family -

This is an update to let you know what’s going on with the progress of the village. I will continue to write these updates as the preburn season goes on.

Registrations (filling fast!):
Apparently ET was a great place to camp last year because this year’s registrations are filling fast. We have 28 out of 54 spots filled for inside the domes and 43 spots out of 100 filled for the outside camping! We have people singing up from all over the place including NYC, Atlanta, Canada, LA, SF, Mexico, Spain, and Guatemala to name a few! We will truly be a diverse group of loving family. So if you where in ET last year and have the intention to camp in the village this year… get on it and register cus we want you back!!! http://earth-tribe.org/registration.php

Village Placement:
So we where going to camp in the “green zone” near 3:00 but that is changing for several reasons. We LOVED the idea of an all green zone but unfortunately the group putting it together decided to not go through with it. The green zone may take a new turn and spring up somewhere but it would be a last minute situation and that is something we have challenges interfacing with. We also met some opposition from inside the camp from those of you attached to the 8:00 side of BM as ET has traditionally been on that side for 2 years. So with all these new developments the village has decided to ask for property near 8:00 again.

Art Car:
Last year the ET Mutant Vehicle was to big to fit down the side streets! This year with the help of Kenny the ET art car Focalizer we will revamp the Bus to fit down all streets making roaming the playa much easier. he There has also been talk of a large PA in the art car. This is not happening but of course there will be a decent sized system still.

Central Community Space:
The 1/3 scaled version of center camp that is our community space is shaping up! We are hard at work collecting materials and doing the prep to get this amazing structure. Yes food will be prepped and eaten there and it will be a chill space but there is a new and exciting development on the use of this large area. DJ Miles Maeda will be offering Rudra yoga Yoga workshops open to all of Burningman which focus on primitive and unadorned practice tools of yoga, meditation and creative work. This will be a wonderful and intentional addition to the village!

Volunteers:
Volunteers needed! The fallowing positions need to be filled:
• Kitchen Coordinator - Volunteer needed that is good in the kitchen and can coordinate people also need to do some pre playa prep ($245 scholarship)
• Power Systems - Volunteer needed that understands basic electrical to turn generators on and off during Burning Man ($120 scholarship)
Please reply to this email if you are interested.

Well that’s all for now you radiant being of light! Now go out there and show the world what love can do!

Hey there ET peoples. Registration is filling at a good speed. I know for many of you it's really early to start thinking about BM but for the village as a whole it's time to start!

The sooner you register the easier it is for us to start building the new projects for this years burn. So if you have the means and are planning to camp with ET please feel free to sign up sooner.

I wasn't clear about something on the earth tribe website.
it say that for outside campers they must provide 3 boxes of bulk food, water for drinking and water for showering,
but under the section that lists what the camp provides for the given costs it say it provides all water and food.
could you please clarify this for me.
i
have never camped with earth tribe before and am curious about some logistics.
I was also wondering how much volunteer time is required per person for the comittees listed?

Thank you and blessings,

Call to Artists!

Call to Artists!
Both emerging and established artists working in all visual media for City Repair’s 7th Annual Village Building Convergence (VBC7) Art Gallery, May 18 - May 27, 2007

“Hail, Guardians of the Watchtowers of the East, Powers of Air! We invoke you and call you, Golden Eagle of the Dawn, Star-seeker, Rising Sun, Come!” –Starhawk, The Spiral Dance

For centuries the four directions have been invoked in rituals from healing ceremonies to vision quests. This year for the VBC7 Art Gallery we invite you to invoke these sacred energies through your art as we impart on the communal journey that is VBC. Each wall will be dedicated to a particular direction (East, West, North, South) that will be hung with work that loosely corresponds to the affiliation of that direction. Through your artistic vision, you will assist in firmly orienting us to our common place.

To submit,* please provide:

1. Brief explanation of the directional affiliation of your work (i.e., what is the particular connection between the art you are submitting and a specific direction – East, West, North, or South?)
2. Digital images of your work, if this is not possible, please email me
3. Title
4. Media
5. Dimensions
6. Artist’s Statement
7. Contact Information
8. No more than 4 entries

*You’re beautiful, talented, and we love you, but submissions will ~not~ be accepted after April 22nd

Send submissions and questions to Marnie, VBC7 art gallery coordinator, at pdxsunfire1@yahoo.com

Know someone who would be great for the installation? Please forward this announcement to them! Thanks!

For more info regarding VBC7, visit http://www.cityrepair.org/wiki.php/projects/vbc7

Common Directional Associations (not facts or rules -- just a starting point for you to [re-]interpret and shape-shift)

East: Air, higher spiritual vision, healing, new birth, intuition, knowledge, the mind, theory, high mountain peaks, season of spring, birds (especially eagles and hawks), dawn

It is written, the telling of a storm, a tempest of energy that will surge over this land and free all willing minds. All sleepers will wake on the night of Febuary 24th! Prepare yourselves, the time to rise from slumber is near. The prophecy will be forfilled as the Great Awakening draws near...

Hello, this is Matty from The Mutaytor here. We are a performance art and music group that was founded at Burning Man in 1998, and our show is coming to Eugene for the first time in a few weeks. We wanted to say hello, and reach out to all of the music and party people in your area to invite you to come and check out our show first hand. We've never played there before, and if you have any suggestions for local promotion, burner DJ/band to open up for us, or good newspaper/radio/e-lists to announce our show...we'd love to have your feedback.

Here's a bit more info from us about our show, and my contact info is below if you have any questions or ideas!

The Mutaytor Eugene Debut- Thursday Oct 5th at Wow Hall

The Mutaytor plans to bring their multi-media ensemble across the country this fall and introduce their critically acclaimed show to audiences coast to coast. The Los Angeles based troupe features over 50 drums onstage and elaborate visual backdrops as well as fire spinners, Burlesque style dancers, anime characters, and hoop artists. Their unbelievably unique stage show is dazzling audiences across the west coast and beyond. With influences ranging from Blue Man Group & Crystal Method to P-Funk and Cirque De Soleil, The Mutaytor is poised to introduce their show to the masses.

Throughout the past year, The Mutaytor has garnered an impressive amount of press, accolades, and TV placements. They have been featured in The LA Times & BPM Magazine and received the 2005 LA Music Award for Independent Live Performance. The infectious grooves of "Give A Little Mo" and "On Fire Like This" can be heard in recent TV hits including Fox's 'House' and NBC's "Hawaii".

2006 has seen many amazing and unique opportunities come to fruition for The Mutaytor including appearances at corporate & sporting events as well as theatres, gaming conferences, and festivals. On the heels of appearances at the previous two Dem-X Awards, Billboard Magazine has again tapped The Mutaytor to be part of this year’s MECCA conference on April 4 in conjunction with CTIA. MECCA is one of the leading mobi
